Tennel McIntosh, 20, was saved from the gallows when a jury returned a majority verdict of not guilty to the murder and rape of 24-year-old British schoolteacher Joanne Clarke on Paradise Island. McIntosh, who is partially blind and deaf and has a mental age of 10, could have faced the death sentence if he had been found guilty. His lawyer had said that McIntosh had been framed by police trying to protect the Bahamian tourist industry. He now faces a trial for the murder of an American tourist, Lori Fogleman, whose body was found - six weeks after she disappeared - in the same area of the Paradise Island beach as Joanne Clarke's.
