Texas Senate Criminal Justice Committee endorsed a resolution that would allow voters to decide whether to impose a two-year moratorium on executions while the state's death penalty is studied. Recent polls have shown support for a moratorium and that a majority of Texans believe an innocent person has been executed. "No Texan wants to be a party to the execution of an innocent man or woman," said the bill's sponsor Eliot Shapleigh (D-El Paso). The resolution must now pass the full Senate and House before being considered by Governor Perry.
