Christopher Young Was Executed. Young, 34, Black, was sentenced to death on Feb. 7, 2006.
Young never denied the slaying, which was recorded on a store surveillance camera, but insisted he was drunk and didn't intend to kill 53-year-old Hasmukh "Hash" Patel during an attempted robbery after drinking nearly two dozen beers and then doing cocaine that Sunday morning, Nov. 21, 2004. Young becomes the 8th inmate to be put to death this year in Texas, the 553rd person executed in Texas since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982, the 13th inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1,478th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977, and the 1,303rd person executed by lethal injection.
