The Abidjan Panafrican News Agency reported that Ivorian gendarmes and policemen carried out numerous summary executions against those they captured during a mutiny outbreak of about 750 soldiers. "I personally watched at the gendarmerie camp in Agban _ the execution of 10 or more people who had been taken prisoners in the fighting that took place within the camp," said K.G., a young driver who had gone there to see his uncle. He did not want to be identified. "I clearly heard a non-commissioned officer order his men not to keep prisoners, and that all those who surrendered should be executed immediately," added K.G., who said he was upset by pleas of mercy from those being shot dead.
