The Calcutta Eastern Indian Metropolis High Court acquitted ten convicts on the grounds that the prosecution had failed to substantiate charges against them. Of the ten, three had been sentenced to death and seven others to life imprisonment in connection with the killing of a lorry driver on the national highway between Sahntipur and Krishnagar on May 3, 1998.
