The Constitutional Court approved a draft legislation that removes the death penalty from fundamental law. The legislation was proposed by the government. Capital punishment was abolished in 1996 and no one in Moldova has been executed since then even though the constitution's Article 24 sought capital punishment for convicted murderers and state traitors.
