The consultative council of [Belarusian] opposition parties met to express concerns about the recommendations issued by the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) to the Belarusian authorities.
The consultative council was concerned by four conditions for renewing the Council of Europe's dialogue with Belarus, announced at a meeting of the assembly's political committee in Vilnius.
Two of these conditions, to abolish the death penalty and to introduce the post of ombudsman, are new.
At the same time, these four conditions, do not include improving electoral legislation or creating a climate of trust between the authorities and the opposition. It is these two conditions that the opposition believes are the most important.
