The court in northern Hung Yen province sentenced four women and one man to death after they were found guilty of drug trafficking. Their five accomplices were given sentences of life imprisonment and others received 15 or 20 years in jail. The defendants, including an official from the State Treasury in northern Lai Chau province who received a life sentence, were found to have illegally traded 10.5 kg of heroin and 2.5 kg of opium between 1998 and 2000.
