The Court of Appeals, headed by Judge Ahmed Al-Ajeel, upheld the Criminal Court's ruling of the death penalty against three of the defendants accused of killing the child, Amna, and sentenced the fourth female defendant for life imprisonment.
The Criminal Court, in July, issued a death sentence against Marzouk Al-Saeed, Hamad Al-Dihani and Saeed Al-Saeed for abducting, murdering and raping the six-year-old girl and issued a life imprisonment against Latifa Al-Saeed, the fourth defendant who will be deported after serving her sentence. The court had decided on October 20 to give its final verdict on November 2 after attorneys of the four defendants pleaded innocent, and the judges turned down a request by the lawyers to call in forensic experts, the Director of Kuwait Army's Intelligence, Col. Faisal Al-Solah, and officers who had examined the scene of the crime.
The horrific crime that shocked the people of Kuwait was first cross-examined by the court on June 15.
Public Prosecution had appealed to the judiciary to hang the criminals for showing no mercy in murdering and abusing the innocent child.
