A Dallas County jury took less than 3 hours to decide on the death penalty in the retrial of a woman accused of killing and then robbing her neighbor.
The same jury convicted Kimberly Lagayle McCarthy of capital murder for the July 21, 1997 murder of Dorothy Booth.
In 1998, Ms. McCarthy became the 2nd Dallas County woman in a century to be sentenced to death, but her 1st conviction was overturned.
She was granted a new trial in December when the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals agreed that a statement taken by a Dallas police detective violated her constitutional rights.
