The Cuban Attorney General's Office sought the death penalty for a man charged with the murders of six people. The Office also called for the death penalty for the alleged accomplice of accused murderer Pedro Giovanni Cespedes, though it allowed for the possibility of commuting the accomplice's sentence to 30 years in prison. Cespedes and Osley Rondon confessed to participating in the murders, according to authorities. Also facing trial is Reynaldo Mosquera, Cespedes' accomplice in the so-called "highway crime," a robbery in which five people were murdered, two of them Cuban-born Florida residents. The incident occurred Dec. 16, 2001, on a highway near Santa Clara, 276 kilometers (170 miles) east of Havana. The victims included an 8-year-old boy, his aunt, his grandparents and the driver of the vehicle carrying them.
