The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Gagik Aslanyan is against abolition of capital punishment in the country

The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Gagik Aslanyan is against abolition of capital punishment in the country.
He said that even if it is abolished, as required by the Council of Europe, the terrorists accused of the attack on the Armenian parliament on October 27, 1999 should not be exempt from capital punishment.
In the attack the state's Prime-Minister Vazgen Sarkissyan, the Speaker of the National Assembly Karen Demirchyan, both Deputy Speakers, one minister and three deputies were assassinated. Legal proceedings against the [alleged] terrorists commenced in Yerevan on February 15, 2001. The proceedings are still in process up to date.
