The editor of the weekly "War Ogaal", Abdishakur Yusuf Ali, was due to appear in court for reporting that two women had been sentenced to death in Bosaso, the commercial capital of the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, northeastern Somalia. He was arrested late February when the Puntland authorities accused him of publishing "false assertions" by reporting that two women had been sentenced to death for "unnatural behaviour". Abdishakur was scheduled to appear in court this week, but was admitted into hospital feeling ill on March 26. Since Abdishakur published the story, there has been no independent confirmation of the reported court case - which the Puntland authorities insisted was without any foundation.
