The Ethiopian Federal High Court sentenced 21 defendants, four of them to death, they had been indicted on charges of extra judicial killings of religious leaders and eminent personalities during the reign of Colonel Mengistu's military government. Those sentenced to death were Colonel Zerihun Agafari and privates Abebe Eshetu, Lisanu Mola and Berihun Mamo. The court alleged that Col Zerihun Agafari, who was commander of what was known as the "Special Force" during the rule of the military junta was found guilty of complicity in the killings of Abune Tewoflos and 13 other victims without the due process of law.
