The EU Parliament committee on women's rights voted unanimously in favor of the boycott of Miss World pageant to protest a death sentence given to a woman there for having sex outside of marriage. Chairwoman Anna Karamanou of Greece said Nigeria "treats women in a totally unacceptable way." The European Parliament adopted a resolution last week condemning the sentence given to Amina Lawal, a 30-year-old single mother.
