The first local trial of six Bosnian Muslims charged with war crimes committed against Bosnian Croat prisoners in the Mostar region during the conflict of 1993-94, has begun in Mostar. The United Nations war crimes tribunal, which has the supreme authority to prosecute war crimes suspects from former Yugoslavia, gave its approval for the Mostar cantonal court to conduct the trial. Indictees Zikrija Ljevo and Vernes Zahirovic denied charges of murder.
