The Florida Supreme Court reduced the death sentence of Ryan Thomas Green, 24, who was sentenced to death on January 11, 2006 (see) for the Feb. 23, 2003, killing of 59-year-old James Hallman, a retired police sergeant. Court overruled the trial judge's sentence because Green suffered from schizophrenia and was unable to fully appreciate the consequences of his actions, according to the opinion released today. Green now will serve life in state prison without parole for the crime. He also is serving 2 consecutive life prison terms without parole for the attempted murder, the same day, of Christopher Phipps.
