The hanging of a convict was stopped at the Kot Lakhpat Jail as the sister of the deceased forgave him. Mohammed Rashid had murdered Shafqat Ali over an old enmity and was awaiting his hanging after his conviction and rejection of appeals. He was being brought to the gallows when the orders to stop the execution arrived just minutes before the hanging. Similarly another accused, [identified only as] Siddique escaped hanging on the same day when his heirs sought time to strike a compromise with the heirs of the deceased.
