The Indian Supreme Court stayed the execution of alleged Jaish-e-Mohd militant Mohd Afzal, given death penalty by the Delhi High Court for the December 13, 2001 attack on Parliament, and issued notice to the Delhi Government on his petition challenging the order of conviction. A Bench comprising Justice Ashok Bhan and Justice H K Sema issued the notice on Afzal's petition and tagged it along with the petitions filed by Delhi Government and another condemned in the case, Shaukat Hussain Guru. With this the execution of both the condemned prisoners would be stayed till the disposal of the appeal. The Court had on January 19 stayed the execution of Shaukat Hussain Guru following his petition challenging the conviction.
