The International Federation of Human Rights Leagues blamed the Algerian authorities for the violence in the Berber region of Kabylie and accused police there of carrying out summary executions that has left at least 40 people dead.The group said it was complaining to the United Nations. It demanded that the Algerian authorities put an immediate end to their "armed intervention" in the region, hold an enquiry into the executions and allow independent observers into the area to carry out their own investigations.
