A High Court in Bangladesh ruled that two army officers Captain Abdul Majed and a non-commissioned officer, Risalder Moslemuddin, should hang, along with 10 sentenced earlier, for killing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (see 2000). The judge acquitted Major Ahmed Shariful Hossain, Captain Mohammad Kismat Hashem and Captain Nazmul Hossain Ansar. Judge Mohammad Fazlul Karim made the ruling after reviewing a December 2000 split verdict in the high court, in which a two-judge bench had agreed that 10 of the 15 accused should hang but was divided over the fate of the other five. Eleven of the 15 accused in the case were tried in absentia, and police said only four were in custody. The others are believed to be abroad. All 15 were originally sentenced to hang in 1998 by a Dhaka court.
