The Kazakh government proposed stiffening punishment, right up to the death sentence, for attempts on the president's life, the Kazakhstan Today news agency reported. The measure is part of a new draft law to amend the country's antiterrorist legislation that was submitted to the country's parliament.
"The draft law also envisages punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 15-20 years, the death sentence or life imprisonment for an attempt on the president's life, made in order to stop his state activities or to avenge such activities," the report said.
The draft law also stiffens the punishments for publicizing terrorism, inciting religious extremism and separatism, and carrying out terrorist activities, the report said.
