The Kazakh Justice Minister, Igor Rogov, said the way criminal law is developing in Kazakhstan makes it possible to speculate that the republic may be getting ready to abolish the death penalty. By 2003, it is planned that life imprisonment will be introduced in Kazakhstan, which will narrow the sphere in which capital punishment is used, Rogov said.
