The leader of the Zimbabwe National Debate Association, Kurauone Chivhai, urged the President and Cabinet Ministers to abolish the death sentence

The leader of the Zimbabwe National Debate Association, Kurauone Chivhai, urged the President and Cabinet Ministers to abolish the death sentence. He said that because of the application of the death penalty Zimbabwe is regarded as a country that does not respect human rights.
In a statement to members of his association, Chivhai said the legal system of the country must respect individual rights to life as enshrined by the constitution, the Bible and as agreed by the United Nations Charter.
He called on the government to commute to life imprisonment the death sentences of prisoners currently on death row like Edmund Masendeke, Stephen Chudhumo and Elias Nhaiya Chauke.
