The man charged with murdering eight students and injuring 15 others at Ikeda Primary School in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, in 2001, said he would not appeal the decision of the Osaka District Court.
During his first day of questioning by prosecutors, Mamoru Takuma said he had no intention of disputing his criminal liability nor of appealing the court's ruling, even if he is sentenced to death.
Asked about the remorse he expressed in an earlier hearing, the 38-year-old Takuma replied, "I said such things because I knew capital punishment is the only sentencing option." Takuma also said he had no remorse and would not apologize to the families of the victims.
