Yoshiro Takahashi, 50, was sentenced to death and three others given life imprisonment for the 1992 murder and robbery of Kazuhiro Obi, a 37-year-old Tokyo doctor, and Yoshihide Fukazawa, 32, a beauty parlor owner. The verdict was handed down by the Yokohama District Court. Presiding Judge Hiroshi Yamura, while ordering Takahashi to be put to death said, "As acts that were committed against humans, they were unforgivable. The crimes were extremely cruel and inhumane. There are no indications of any remorse about what has happened." Takahashi's accomplices - Takamichi Sakai, Masaru Kasai and Akihito Tada - were all sentenced to serve life terms. Kasai's request for the death sentence and offer to the court to atone for his crimes by presenting his organs for donation was rejected.
