The Namibian army confirmed that its soldiers shot dead a member of the Kxoe community in the last week. Hans Dikuwa died at Bagani under mysterious circumstances while in the custody of the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) following his arrest with four other men from western Caprivi.
His body was found almost a week after he was shot dead. Several versions of the shooting incident had emerged. The army said he was shot because he was "trying to drown" soldiers during an escape attempt, while reports from people who witnessed the event said that he was summarily executed after troops lured him into a canoe.
