The Narcotics Control Bureau warned Indian citizens travelling to Saudi Arabia not to accept gifts from travel agents or any other person to avoid falling into the trap of narcotic smugglers.
"All Indian citizens, particularly those from Jammu and Kashmir, travelling to Saudi Arabia should note that trafficking of narcotic substances is a capital offence there and they should take adequate precautions to ensure that they do not unknowingly or inadvertently carry drugs with them," NCB Intelligence Officer R C Bhatt said.
Bhatt said investigations had revealed that a number of Indian nationals apprehended with drugs had been executed in Saudi Arabia over the last few years.
Many of them had carried the contraband without their knowledge. Some of them were innocent job seekers who had been given suitcases, bags and shoes containing drugs by recruitment and travel agents who had arranged their visas, he said.
