the National Assembly (lower house of parliament of the Democratic Republic of Congo) rejected the bill on the abolition of the death penalty, saying it was early to abolish capital punishment in the DRC, a post-conflict country that is full of pockets of insecurity. The refusal came after the defense of the author of this bill, MP André Mbata, who for more than an hour has stressed the importance and desirability of abolishing this punishment. The President of the National Assembly, Evariste Boshab, congratulated the author of the bill dismissed, arguing that his initiative is part of the justice reform in the country. Boshab said he hoped that the Congolese society will be available tomorrow at calls for the abolition of the death penalty.
