The number of supporters of capital punishment in the Czech Republic is decreasing, this year it reached 59 percent, which is the lowest figure since 1992. About 29 percent of Czechs oppose the death sentence. The remaining respondents do not have a clear view on the issue. From 1992 to 1994 three quarters of respondents agreed with capital punishment. In 2000, the death sentence was supported by 61 percent of Czechs.
