The Pakistani woman at the centre of a controversial gang-rape case told a court how she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint by four men whom she knew despite crying out for mercy.
Making her first statement of the trial in the Punjab town of Dera Ghazi Khan, 30-year-old divorcee Mukhtaran Mai recalled the ordeal which shocked Pakistan and highlighted the plight of women in areas where feudal rules still apply.
"All the four accused committed ziadti (rape) with me turn by turn," Mai said.
Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Farid, Faiz Mohammad and Allah Ditta, aged between 20 and 40, all face the death penalty if convicted, as do 10 other men charged with involvement in the alleged rape.
