The parent of a teenager murdered in 1973 is refusing to back calls for the return of the death penalty for child killers. Denver Hughes, aged 73, of Greenway, Llandarcy, said he could understand the public clamour for the return of the death penalty in light of the murders of Jessica and Holly Chapman. In regards to the murderer he said: "There were lots of guesses by many people and names were mentioned that were obviously wrong in the years since 1973. If the death penalty was in place who knows what might have happened. I don't think the death penalty will come back and I don't think it should. Mistakes can be made and nothing can undo what has been done."
