The ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) demanded that opposition candidate, Jung In-bong, withdraw his parliamentary candidacy after they exposed personal records that indicated his involvement in a drug scandal in 1996.The MDP said the Korea Bar Association disciplined Jung for delivering narcotics to a prisoner and it also claimed that Jung was one of the military prosecutors who demanded that then opposition leader Kim Dae-jung be given the death penalty when he was charged with treason in 1980 under the despotic Chun government.. But Jung In-bong said he was a simple "errand boy" for the military prosecutors who called for President Kim's death sentence.
