The Shaanxi Higher Court confirmed the death sentence meted out to the former general manager of the Xian Electro-mechanical Devices, Zhou Changqing, involved in the biggest corruption and embezzlement case since the founding of the People's Republic of China. He was sentenced to death on the trial of the first instance on May 25 for embezzling 48,437,000 yuan (5,836,000 US dollars) worth of company money, and misappropriating 2,720,000 yuan (328,000 US dollars) of public funds.
