The Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced to death with a two year reprieve Yuan Jingge, 27, for killing his grandfather. It was reported that Yuan vented his anger on his 80-year-old grandfather because he didn't have much money. He killed him by striking him on the head with a hammer on August 10, 2003, before attempting to commit suicide. He surrendered to the police the next morning.
