Three members of a mafia gang and four murderers were executed in two Chinese provinces, Chinese media reported. Yu Zhanjun, his brother Yu Zhancai and Zhang Shuguo were accused of having created a mafia empire in the town of Baishan, in the north east province of Jilin, which they began by running a coal mine. Gradually they enlarged their influence by buying off local officials and through killings and armed robberies, according to official media.
