The South Korean government hinted that it would not pursue charges that China violated the Vienna Convention on consular affairs concerning the alleged failure to promptly inform Seoul about the execution of a South Korean convict.
"We won't take issue with it as Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan expressed regrets over the late notification of the execution during a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Han Seung-soo in Brunei," Vice Foreign Minister Choi Sung-hong told reporters.
The Vienna convention calls for a nation to immediately inform the home government of a foreign resident who dies or is executed on its territory about the death.
