The state will move executions to earlier in the day to lower costs and improve convenience. Executions will be at 10 a.m., during normal workday hours, instead of at 9 p.m., when the state must pay overtime. The change will go into effect with the next scheduled execution, that of John W. Byrd Jr., who is to be put to death on Sept. 12.
