The streets of the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, saw large-scale political demonstrations as the opposition took to the streets to demand respect for human rights. Despite allegations of human rights abuses by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, the Venezuelan government insisted that it had used only proportionate force.
