The Supreme Court has dismissed prosecution of a 63-year-old man convicted of murdering two people and committing robberies in 1994 and 1995 because he died July 2, court officials.
The court's Second Petty Bench dismissed the indictment against Sadashige Nitta, who had been sentenced to death in district and high courts and was appealing. He is believed to have died of illness.
According to the previous rulings, Nitta tied a woman up with adhesive tape in an art dealer's home in the town of Yaotsu, Gifu Prefecture and stole 1 million yen in cash and other items in March 1994.
