The Supreme Court of Appeals reversed the death sentence handed down on Salih Izzet Erdis, also known as Salih Mirzabeyoglu, the head of the fundamentalist terrorist organization IBDA-C. He had been condemned by the Istanbul State Security Court on charges of "attempting to change the constitutional order by use of force and weapons" under Article 146-1 of the Turkish Penal Code.
The Penal Department said that it decided to reverse the death sentence as the identity information of Erdis had not been written in the brief verdict paragraph of the reasoned verdict.
