The Supreme Court upheld a death sentence for a man who killed and robbed two workmates.
Masaru Ueda found no recourse in his last chance at appealing the death sentence handed to him when the top court decided he had to die.
"To have killed two blameless people carries with it a huge responsibility," Chief Justice Masao Fujii said as he handed down the ruling. "(His) Actions were cruel and inhumane and can only be greeted with execution."
Earlier rulings said that on February 16, 1993, Ueda, 32, killed Koji Okamura, a 26-year-old carpenter. He stole 4,000 yen from Okamura and dumped his body along the Kiso River in Aichi Prefecture.
On March 3, 1993, Ueda fatally bludgeoned Shiro Tanaka, a 56-year-old noodle shop owner, stealing 135,000 yen. Ueda later dumped Tanaka's body near the Kiso River.
