The Tajik Supreme Court and its military collegium passed death sentences on 33 people in 2000. This is almost triple the previous year's figure. In 1999, these agencies sentenced 12 criminals to death. Asia-Plus failed to obtain information from the Supreme Court about sentences handed down by Regional, town and District courts.
