The Tajik Supreme Court sentenced members of a criminal group to capital punishment and long prison terms for setting up an illegal armed group, terrorism, killings and assassination attempts against government officials.
Rahmatullo Tashripov was sentenced to death for his "brutal" actions. A former regional leader, Abdujalil Homidov, was sentenced to 15 years in jail and two other leaders of the group, brothers Sayfullo Azimov and Ismat Habibulloyev, received sentences of 25 years on the same charges. They were also accused of cooperating with antigovernment forces in a "neighbouring country".
