The Tehran's Justice administration hit back at those opposing the public execution of the court sentences, saying their opposition is "politically-biased".
"A certain number of people are 'with bias and for political ends misinterpreting the public execution of divine laws," it said in a statement.
The administration said that public punishments are inflicted on those who have "hurt the public morals and security", noting that the people are "satisfied with the public punishment of the outlaws".
The statement came amid mixed reactions from various groupings in the society over public punishments, notably floggings. Recent public floggings in Iran, numbering some 200, have created renewed debates among political and religious figures.
Judiciary officials insist they are an inseparable part of Islamic doctrine and are justified as a means of deterring rising criminality and breaches of Islamic teachings.
