The Thai Criminal Court sentenced to death by lethal injection four people after convicting them of possessing more than one million methamphetamine pills. The death sentence passed on the fourth suspect, Nameepoy Kachornthaweepaisal, was commuted to life imprisonment after she confessed. She was convicted along with Ekkachai Longjaidam, 22, Surachai Tami, 22, and Thienwu sae Yang, 25, on charges of possessing 1,040,000 speed pills in Bangkok. The court was told Ekkachai and Surachai visited a house in Huay Khwang district on January 16, 2004 to pick up speed pills from Thienwu. Ekkachai and Surachai collected 100,000 tablets and left the house in one vehicle. They were about to change to another at an intersection when they were arrested with the pills and 480,000 Baht in cash. Their capture led to raids on two houses in Bangkok where the gang hid 940,000 more speed pills.
