The Tokyo High Court upheld a lower court ruling that sentenced Xue Song, a 30 year old Chinese national, to death for murdering a Chinese woman and her husband after the woman had rejected his advances. Presiding Judge Yu Shiraki said that Xue's actions were "unreasonable and inhumane" and that despite the remorse shown by the accused, a death sentence was unavoidable. According to the ruling, Xue fatally stabbed Xu Xin, 29, and her husband, Gu Jingqi, 39, at a parking lot in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, on Sept. 22, 2000, with a survival knife.
