The Vietnamese journal An Ninh Thu Do (Police Journal) reported that during November the police division in charge of drug prevention and control of Hanoi City worked closely with public security units in districts and precincts to successfully handle 150 cases of drug-related crimes and arrest 221 offenders. Three localities of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Lai Chau opened trials for three major drug trafficking gangs that include 46 offenders. Among these offenders, 12 were sentenced to death, seven to life in prison, and the rest were given prison sentences ranging from 20 years downwards. November was the month with the highest number of offenders sentenced to death since the beginning of 2000.
