The Zambian Supreme Court acquitted two men who had been sentenced to death. It was unclear what they had been accused of. In delivering judgment, deputy Chief Justice, David Lewanika acquitted Prince Mugala, 48 and Simon Bwanga, 36 who had appealed against their conviction and sentence. Justice Lewanika said it would be unsafe to maintain the convictions because the evidence against the two had been circumstantial. "It would be unsafe to maintain the convictions and therefore the appeal is allowed and the two are acquitted," Justice Lewanika said.
