Three members of a southern Muslim separatist movement were convicted of treason and sentenced to death, but their sentences were reduced to life imprisonment because they cooperated with the police investigation. Two other defendants were acquitted for lack of evidence. The three men found guilty of treason are Pattani United Liberation Organisation (Pulo) cell leader Haji Daoh Thanam, 45, New Pulo chairman Haji Bueto Betong, 65, and Pulo operative Yamee Maseh, 52.
